Lebo's Soweto Backpackers - Soweto Cycling Tour (4 hours)

The tour begins with a journey to an observation point with views over Orlando East and West. Your guide will tell you about Soweto, its size, history, and the people who make up this massive township. The tour continues to the community of Meadowlands famous for the forced removals from the mixed-race area of Sophiatown in Johannesburg in the mid-1950s. Cycle along various streets leading to Orlando West, through various neighbourhoods and notice how the people in Soweto have progressed. On the way, you can buy local snacks at street stalls to experience township living and support local businesses.
Visit the houses of Nobel Peace Prize winners Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu as you cycle down Vilakazi Street. Visit the Hector Pieterson Museum, migrant labour hostels for men, churches and community centres in the area.
The tour returns to Lebo’s, where there is a tasting ceremony of locally brewed drinks.

Depending on the tour departure time, a delicious African meal, cooked in the traditional way, will be served before or after the tour at the outdoor restaurant in the community park.

We suggest guests wear comfortable clothes and shoes and pack suntan lotion.
In Summer(Dec-Mar)- Bring along rain coat or jacket.
In winter (June-August)- A warm jacket or jersey for winter mornings is recommended.
